Every child needs and deserves a safe, nurturing home and a family that offers unconditional love. But too many children grow up in homes that are not safe, where love is rare if it is found at all, where abuse, neglect, family conflict or the threat of homelessness leads them to find safety in temporary shelters or foster homes. At the same time, in a growing number of single-mother households, love battles daily against sagging spirits and a judgmental world as mothers struggle to keep their families together and give their children hope for the future.
These are the children, women and families who come to Children At Heart Ministires. The need grows every day. But with your help, our family of Christian ministries will continue to honor God and build a better world by serving children and families in crisis. Each of our four child and family service ministries is committed to rescuing children and restoring families, showing them that they are loved and worthy of God’s purpose for their lives. Serving Children and Strengthening Families
Serving Children is the focus of each of our ministries. Children are a gift from God and a blessing for all of us. They must be protected and nurtured so they have lives filled with opportunity and hope. Strengthening Families recognizes the family as the foundation of our society. The families of the children we serve are encouraged to enable their children to grow up knowing they are worthy of God’s love and grace and prepared to begin their own loving and nurturing families. Breaking the cycle of abuse, neglect and family violence is essential to the future of each child as well as our world. The Serving Children and Strengthening Families Campaign will allow Children At Heart Ministries to serve more Texas children and families by building the necessary financial and physical support systems to sustain and expand existing services. It will also provide the resources needed to start new ministries and/or partner with other ministries to better serve children and strengthen families. Future expansion plans include opening up to three additional Gracewood campuses for single moms and their children in the Houston area. Single-mother families are among the neediest in Texas and many are threatened by homelessness. An expanded Gracewood ministry will help assure a safe, stable future for the children. In addition, there is a pressing need to expand the STARRY Foster Care Program to serve more children in loving, Christian families and expand the Emergency Shelter Program to assist more children in need of immediate protection against abuse and neglect. At Texas Baptist Children's Home and Miracle Farm, continuing demands for services are placing increased burdens on existing facilities. Only with your help we can meet the future needs of the children and families we serve. Meanwhile, the Children At Heart Ministries Board of Trustees is considering opportunities to partner with other U.S. and international children’s ministries. While sustaining existing ministries is our priority, as the needs of children in crisis grow throughout our world, the goal of each of our ministries is to respond to those needs as God leads and provides opportunity. The Children at Heart Foundation provides fundraising, communications and charitable estate planning services to the Children At Heart family of ministries, which has a debt-free spending policy for both operating expenses and capital improvements. Because the Foundation provides services to our ministries at no cost, 100 percent of your campaign gifts go directly to support children and families in need.
